Update from the Mississippi Office of Student Financial Aid
Full-Time Credit Hour Requirement Change: During its Jan. 14 meeting, the Postsecondary Education Financial Assistance Board voted to change the definition of "full time" for state grant eligibility from 15 credit hours per term back to 12 credit hours per term beginning with the 2025-26 aid year. No changes were made to the continuous full-time enrollment requirement. Spring 2025 is under the rules for 2024-25. Therefore, students must be enrolled in at least 15 credit hours to receive their state grant funds for the spring 2025. However, they will only have to complete 12 credit hours for spring 2025.
This means that continuing eligibility for fall 2025 for returning students will be based on spring 2025 credit hour completion/grades, as well as fall 2025 enrollment. Therefore, students who take and complete 12 credit hours and earn an eligible maintenance GPA in spring 2025 WILL be eligible to receive state aid in fall 2025 if they continue to enroll in at least 12 hours. All impacted rules and regulations will be updated during the board’s next meeting in April.
