Constitution Day
Constitution Day was established by Congress in 2004 to ensure that all federally funded educational institutions provide an educational program about the U.S. Constitution. The observance takes place on September 17, the anniversary of the signing of the Constitution in 1787 by 39 delegates at the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia.
To honor this important day, Mississippi State University offers two events open to all students, faculty, and staff:
Event One
A display table located at the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships, Garner Hall, featuring free handouts, general information, and interactive materials related to the U.S. Constitution.
Event Two
An open event hosted by Dr. Brian Shoup, Professor of Political Science and Public Administration. Dr. Shoup teaches courses in comparative politics and public policy. His research focuses on identity politics, conflict, and nation-building. He is the author of Conflict and Cooperation in Multi-Ethnic States: Institutional Incentives, Myths, and Counterbalancing, and his work has been published in journals such as Commonwealth and Comparative Politics, Democratization, Journal of Democracy, The Journal of Labor Research, Perspectives on Politics, and PS: Political Science.
